DR. WALIA INSPECTS CW GAMES RELATED NDMC PROJECTS q DIRECTS COMPLETION OF ALL CIVIL WORKS BY JUNE 2010 q FAÇADE RESTORATION WORK IN CP IN FULL SWING q FOUR SUB-WAYS IN OUTER CIRCLE TO ENSURE PEDESTRIAN SAFETY q FOB AT PARK STREET NEAR RML HOSPITAL TO HAVE LIFT AND ESCALATOR; ANOTHER FOB WITH ESCALATOR AT AFRICA AVENUE q SHANTI PATH UNDERPASS FOR LIGHT VEHICLES q NEW LOOK OF NDMC AREA WITH MODERN ROAD SIGNAGES AND STREET SCAPING New Delhi: 25th May, 2010 Delhi Urban Development Minister Dr. A.K. Walia along with NDMC Chairperson Shri Parimal Rai today inspected various on-going CW Games related projects in NDMC area. After visiting a number of under-construction projects Dr. Walia directed the NDMC to complete all civil works before onset of monsoon and concentrate on horticulture work thereafter. He stressed upon the need of quality work so that a better image of the NDMC area could be projected during Commonwealth Games. While inspecting on-going work relating to re-development of Connaught Place Dr. Walia minutely checked the façade restoration work. It was stated that re-development of Connaught Place and façade restoration has already been completed in C-Block. This Block was taken up under a pilot project. The re-development is on in 11 blocks. The work between 75 to 81% has already been completed. Dr. Walia further instructed the NDMC to concentrate on re-development of Connaught Place as large number of tourists, players and officials of sports organizations from Commonwealth countries will be visiting this all important business district of New Delhi. Dr. Walia also inspected on-going construction work of a tunnel, which will provide an underground cabling/lines of all utility services. This will overcome problem of frequent digging and will also ensure a damage proof place for all service lines like telephone, electricity, water, cable, gas pipeline, etc. The tunnel with an area of 21ft. x21 ft. with 1.2 km. length is being constructed on war-footing. 500 meter length has already been completed. As far as street scaping of NDMC roads is concerned the NDMC has completed upto 75% work on all its roads. Dr. Walia was impressed with the quality of work. It was stated that a portion of Baba Kharak Singh Marg is still with the DMRC. They have been requested to hand it over at the earliest. It was also reported that greening and street scaping at all round about is in full swing. Upto 80% work has been completed. The Pavement Improvement Plan (PIP) in respect of a number of NDMC roads is near completion. It was reported that upto 95% work has been completed. The NDMC has also undertaken Riding Quality Improvement (RIP) on its 117 roads out of which work on 101 roads has been completed. The NDMC is also concentrating on modern road signages. The design of signages has been approved by the city government. Signages in yellow colour indicate traffic instructions, other signages in blue colour are indicative of the places whereas the signages in green colour are disseminating welcome gestures. The NDMC is also constructing two Foot Over Bridges. The first one at Park Street near RML Hospital will have an escalator and a lift whereas another modern FOB at Africa Avenue, Sarojini Nagar Depot will also have an escalator. NDMC is also constructing one more FOB at Mother Teresa Marg which is coming up over a minimum area on pavement. Dr. Walia was informed that an Underpass at Shanti Path is being constructed to provide a passage to light vehicles which use to run up to Moti Bagh Ring Road for taking a u-turn. Keeping in view the requirement of parking for vehicles during CW Games the NDMC has chalked out a plan to make available Park & Ride service at Safdarjung Airport with total area of 1,70,000 sq.meter. This will provide parking space for 3000 cars, 6000 two-wheelers and 450 buses. This will also help in de-congesting main entry and exit roads leading to Nehru Stadium. Dr. Walia also visited fully renovated Talkatora Stadium where boxing competition event will take place. He was taken to the facility block and two-level underground parking. It was stated that test competitions have been successfully organized in Talkatora Stadium. Dr. Walia was also briefed about progress of work relating to Shivaji Stadium which is to be used as training venue for Hockey. Both these stadiums have been designed and constructed on green building concept. Dr. Walia was further informed that the NDMC has constructed four modern public conveniences at Ring Road. These are elegant, clean and have decorative like fish aquariums. These will provide free services to the users. The NDMC has decided to construct 200 such public conveniences under its jurisdiction. |
